Calibration of the CERTIFIER Air Velocity Calibrator Using a Laser Doppler Velocimeter (LDV)

چکیده

Introduction Traditionally a Pitot-static tube connected to a pressure transducer is used to make air velocity measurement. Lately, velocity transducers based on the principle of convective heat transfer have become popular. Both types of transducers need occasional calibrations. Also, several regulatory agencies require that the calibration of velocity transducers used in certain applications must be verified at regular intervals. While evaluating a velocity transducer calibration facility, one must consider two essential factors. One is the quality of air stream, and the other is the method used to establish the reference velocity in the calibration facility. A suitable calibration facility must provide a test section area large enough to avoid blocking effects, have good motor speed control, and provide an air stream with spatial uniformity and steadiness of flow. A well designed wind tunnel usually meets these requirements at velocities above 750 ft/min (FPM). However, to accomplish similar effects at lower velocities (30 to 750 FPM) is much more difficult.

Directional spatial-resolved laser Doppler velocimeter using a two-colour fibre laser

A concept for the realisation of directional laser Doppler velocimeters (LDV), without having to use opto-electronic modulators like Bragg cells is presented. The concept is based on the use of a diode-pumped fibre laser, emitting at two different wavelengths. The two laser colours are used to generate two interference fringe systems in the measuring volume of the LDV system. The fringe systems...

Monostatic coaxial 1.5 μm laser Doppler velocimeter using a scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer.

We present a laser Doppler velocimeter (LDV) in monostatic coaxial arrangement consisting of off-the-shelf telecom-grade components: a single frequency laser (wavelength λ = 1.5 μm) and a high-finesse scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer (sFPI). In contrast to previous 1.5 μm LDV systems based on heterodyne detection, our sFPI-LDV has the advantages of having large remote sensing range not limit...

A Sub-Miniature Laser-Doppler Velocimeter for High Speed Flow Measurements

A new laser-Doppler velocimeter (LDV) for high speed flow measurements (three-dimensional flows with speeds greater than 610 m/s) is being developed based in-part upon an existing low speed instrument capable of high resolution, near surface velocity vector measurements. The key technology for the instrument is a sub-miniature laser-Doppler velocimeter (SMLDV); a similar low-speed version of wh...

Grasping Force Control for a Robotic Hand by Slip Detection Using Developed Micro Laser Doppler Velocimeter

The purpose of this paper is to show the feasibility of grasping force control by feeding back signals of the developed micro-laser Doppler velocimeter (μ-LDV) and by discriminating whether a grasped object is slipping or not. LDV is well known as a high response surface velocity sensor which can measure various surfaces-such as metal, paper, film, and so on-thus suggesting the potential applic...

Design Considerations for a 3d Fibre Optic Laser Doppler Velocimeter for Turbomachinery Applications

Single headed 3D Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) geometries generally rely upon the use of 3 Doppler difference channels, inclined at differing angles with respect to the mechanical axes of the probe. The transformation between the non-orthogonal measurement co-ordinate system and the Cartesian system can result in large errors in the calculated velocities. A theoretical analysis of the geometr...
